The picture-in-picture mode has been released by WhatsApp with its newest Android app version. This feature will enable the users to see video content from 3rd-party applications within WhatsApp, with no need to exit a chat window. Though this feature has been accessible since early in the year on iOS, at first, PiP mode was released in the Android beta of the platform in October.
With the newest Android variant of WhatsApp, the users won’t be readdressed to external sources if they tap on video links sent from Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Tumblr, among others. When one receives a 3rd-party video link on WhatsApp, they can locate the video card with a thumbnail image’s fuzzy version, along with the platform logo.
On clicking on the link, the video will be played by the PiP mode over the top half of the conversation frame, which the users can opt to change to full-screen viewing. Further, the users can also run the video timeline bar below to spool to or past diverse segments.
Though the Facebook-owned platform is anticipated to extend backing across more platforms, leading social media platforms have been added for the PiP mode. The WhatsApp version 2.18.380 can be accessed by users via the Google Play Store or update their application to utilize the same. This PiP mode can be utilized for both group as well as individual conversations and is compatible with all Android devices.
Likewise, WhatsApp has also been validating other new features for Android, like an enhanced group calling interface. With this, users will be enabled to call up all the group members at the same time, rather than needing to add them individually to an existing call. And can be expected to be rolled out soon. Moreover, WhatsApp is thinking about a Dark mode, similar to YouTube, to make viewing at nighttime simpler.
