Lately the media reported a leak that displayed plenty of various in-display ideas that Samsung aims to operate in 2019 to ditch the notch fashion. Following up on those design concepts, Samsung has filed a copyright for a Fingerprint-On-Display. This patent will essentially convert the whole screen into a fingerprint reader.
The patent was filed by Samsung in April 2018 at the WIPO and the USPTO. It is named as “Method for acquiring biometric information and electronic device supporting the same.” The Korean behemoth was given the patent on October 18, 2018, and was posted on the same date. As per the patent, the entire screen can be employed as the fingerprint reader for access, employing a biometric reader equipped into the screen itself. This has a number of benefits, such as not requiring touching a particular point on the display. This is similar to optical under-screen fingerprint readers. While employing banking apps where accidental touches require to be prevented, the app can show a particular window for access.
On a similar note, the U.S. Supreme Court earlier maintained a $120 Million patent honor in which Samsung was requested to pay Apple in the most recent ruling of lawful conflicts between the best two smartphone manufacturers. The case is different from a greater patent court fight in which Samsung was at first requested to pay $1 Billion to the Cupertino-based giant.
The decision included some smartphone features Apple affirmed were replicated by the South Korean hardware mammoth. Samsung had asserted these highlights were “self-evident” and in this way not ready to be licensed. Apple had looked for some $2.2 Billion at trial, just to have a jury grant the California-based organization $119.6 million. An appeals board toppled that decision. However, the full re-appraising board restored the honor in October 2016 by a vote of 8-3.
